"I think maybe my time with my kids when I’m parenting alone is actually me at my best." - Sometimes when my husband travels for work and it goes so well that I think: wait, is my husband holding me back?!? Then realise no, it's going well because I'm SO terrified of the shit hitting the fan that I overprepare things like lunches and laundry and cleaning. And also because I get takeout every single night.

Yes!!! I can’t assume he’s going to pick up the slack, so I have to make sure I do it ALL. But I couldn’t operate like that all the time, I need him!!!!

Solidarity. My kids are almost 9 and 6 and still play the hit each other until someone cries game- their game always involves light sabers or stand in light sabers. There was a kid named Brownie in Where the Heart Is! Maybe this parent also named her child after a snack food.

I hope the rest of the solo parenting goes ok.

Haha thank you! His name is Browning! This was written about a previous solo parenting week, so luckily my husband is currently home and we all made it through. 😂

"12:17 pm: I blackout, and suddenly it’s time to pick up my daughter, as she has been at preschool for her allotted 15 minutes a day."

I literally cackled!!! 🤣🤣🤣

You have so beautifully captured both the warmth and the Kafkaesque chaos of Trying To Get Things Done With Toddlers

You have so accurately captured your morning routine with your two littles, and have provided a chance at the same time, to laugh and remember what life with small humans was like. Fabulous post, Lu.
