I love this, Sarah. You convey the exhaustion of parenthood with such an appreciative sweetness, with a recognition that something beautiful is being shaped in all those long days. Thanks for sharing!
This is a beautiful and perfect essay, a shining little gem in this dark winter. My kids are older now, 19 and 15. I eventually did replace my wardrobe to dress nicer, and I did eventually manage to declutter the house a bit (still working on that -- the detritus of so many years of living takes some time and energy to sort through), but it took much longer than I thought it would, than I hoped. Now that one has gone off to college, I'm thinking about the short window of being well dressed and organized I am hoping to have before the grandchildren I hope to have arrive to joyfully mess it all back up.
This piece was so helpful! I am on a constant quest to make our tiny townhouse work as living space for two adults, a toddler and two cats. While it can be easy to get sucked into despair that it will simply never look pinterest ready, this was a good reminder that it doesn't have to be! My goal is a functional space that let's us live and be happy. And my daughter is also a wild thing that prefers time at playgrounds to home anyway 😄
This is absolutely everything!!! I'm trying so hard to just let go this year and stop trying to be and do everything for everyone. Being able to realistically say "these little humans exist and are fed and healthy(ish) and safe because of ME" is a fantastic reminder!
I love this! I'm still finding myself living in only very stretchy leggings or shorts after having my daughter 2 years ago. I often think - wow, I should get REAL dressed but then my wardrobe feels overwhelming and impossible after a bunch of weight gain that keeps climbing year by year. The clutter has overtaken in my house too... and I would need WEEKS of uninterrupted time to dig things out and get rid of stuff.
As a grandma, I haven’t ever wished I had cleaned more! I will always wish for more hugs from my loved ones!!

I think I've made all those same resolutions and let go of them all in much the same way. Thanks for sharing what's on so many of our minds.
Great piece!
Beautiful!
