If you read this piece and think, "wait, she mentioned every deadly sin except Lust," I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me who in their right mind is struggling with THAT particular temptation when they are dealing with... *gestures circumstantially*
Costco was my favorite place to shop with my two older kids when they were little because it was one of the few places with TWO seats in the cart, not just one. I may have asked one of the Costco workers to tell them that wearing that little seat belt is VERY IMPORTANT and if they take them off and try to crawl out of their seats, they would be eaten by the secret Costco monster or something. Then I had my third child and discovered the miracle of online grocery shopping.
I'm team cut up the card because I personally couldn't handle this, but at same time where you going to get toilet paper in bulk? Especially when 3 learns to wipe but doesn't understand the concept of not overusing the roll?
This had me laughing- I can just picture the whole scenario. I think most parents have felt the same exasperation when shopping with little children. The way you described this situation…. Jeanne Robertson would be proud.
I do the "get there at 8pm" method when my husband can watch both the kids. Highly recommend as this is also the least busy time at Costco and it's so much more relaxing!
The "how many groceries are we getting?" got me. My five year old now asks to see my list so he can judge exactly how much to whine each grocery outing.
The absolute best gift I received while pregnant was a supermarket delivery membership. I got hooked, did the maths, calculated the likelihood of actually getting a car park within ten metres of my front door in my tiny inner city suburb, and have decided that continuing the membership is a worthwhile investment in my sanity. Any time I go to the shops with the 3yo (or read this article 😄) I am confirmed in my decision that this is money well spent.
I do still have to walk to the pharmacy frequently to pick up meds though!
