Learning to walk to school by myself at age 7- my mom escorted me the first week, then I was without an adult to walk 1 mile along suburban streets. I picked up 2 friends on the way, but the first quarter mile I was completely alone. Not sure this is commonly done today.
We had to take the rubbish bins out to near the road on the right day of the week, in time for the garbage truck. That was in Australia, but I'm bringing up my children in Cambodia and we don't have a rubbish truck to collect household waste.
I had to wash and iron my school uniform in time for school 5 days a week, but we homeschool and don't even own an iron.
We only have flipflops, so my kids don't know how to tie laces, or probably even put on socks and shoes....?
In the early 2000s we had 'typing classes' at my primary school - when I became a teacher from 2018 - 2023, I had students who had never touched a keyboard and only knew how to swipe!
Also I was taught to read music like it was an essential skill, but since leaving high school choir I rarely use it. This may just be a context thing though 😄

Wow! *My* mom wouldn't even let me take a walk around our rural neighborhood at age 14 without saying "take the phone!!!" ;)
My kids can make sandwiches and cereal, but no one wears shoes with laces. This is an issue more with ice skates!
