I can’t read this yet, because if people have started leprechaun trap/elf on the shelf-ing the GD beach, I am going to have to schedule my flip out for time outside business hours.
When I was a kid I saw perfect shiny cowrie shells in a store and my mom told me the only way they could get them to be so perfect was by diving down and killing the creatures living in them. Made the search for beautiful shells on the beach feel even more worthwhile
I feel maybe a tiny bit guilty because I used to hide those glass aquarium/flower arranging 'gems' in the sandbox for my kid to find. But he is 20 and still has them, so...
But also, he really wants to find some sea glass, which is a bit of a challenge since we have been to the beach all of 3 times in his life (two of which were on one of the Great Lakes so...not totally a beach). I have never been tempted to hide a piece for him to find because the point of sea glass is that it is SO rare. And I like to think that someday he will be at a beach and finally find his sea glass and it will be utterly magical, even if I'm not there to see it. I would hate to rob him of that moment.

This! "I want them to know they can walk the beach for hours and find nothing to put on their dresser, but still come home full."
Mother Nature offers so much magic! Learning to appreciate nature in all its “boring” glory is such a gift! Love this 🐚
