My kids are 12 and 5, but are still big fans of Bluey. Loved these thoughts and have had many of them myself. Though I will admit feeling a little let down when the Heelers didn't actually move in The Sign. Totally get it from a storytelling perspective, but were going through a pretty big move at the time and I had to explain to my kids that no, we couldn't just change our mind and get our house back like Bluey. 😅
Yes, as someone in Australia, who, at the time the episode came out, had just had to move my daughter away from family in Brisbane (home of Bluey) for various reasons, I struggled with how The Sign matched up to the economic reality of life for most kids in Australia 🙃 I love Bluey, but also love critiquing it!
We love Bluey in our house, but one of the things that bugs me is when their games have a negative impact on people outside the family (as you’ve alluded to with Rug Island). I try really hard to indulge and foster my daughter’s creativity, confidence and whimsy - I can often be spotted skipping with her to daycare or dancing on the little platform at the playground, while internally fighting all my childhood training to not be conspicuous in public. But I absolutely would not do that in a way that makes it harder for someone to do their job (looking at you, Dance Mode) or directly implicates my neighbours while they’re just minding their own business. Luckily, apart from the occasional bit of Bluey-inspired sass, my nearly four-year-old seems to treat the show as entertainment rather than a blueprint for life!
YES. We didn't bring up Dance Mode in this but I have definitely said very similar things to Amy. It's especially irksome because Bandit *is asked to stop dancing in line and refuses*!
